Short answer

OpenCore Legacy Patcher has supported macOS Sequoia since version 2.0.0. Every Mac OCLP supports can run it, from the 2007 iMac to the 2017 models, plus the 2019 iMac. The newest Sequoia installer in the app is 15.8.2 (build 24H232, released 2026-10-26). Sequoia is the stable choice for most patched Macs in 2026: OCLP’s Sequoia patches have had two years of fixes, it runs on the stable OCLP 2.5.1, and Apple still releases security updates for it.

Macs Apple dropped with Sequoia

Apple dropped only the 2018 and 2019 MacBook Air. Both have the T2 chip, which OCLP does not support, so they stay on Sonoma (Dortania, macOS Sequoia).

Which Macs run macOS Sequoia with OCLP

84 Mac models run macOS Sequoia only with OpenCore Legacy Patcher; 16 Intel models run it natively. Generated from the OCLP 3.0.0 source.

With OCLP: Metal GPUs 16

Graphics acceleration is restored with the Metal 31001 patch set (Broadwell, Skylake, Kaby Lake, AMD GCN, Polaris). The smoothest unsupported experience.

With OCLP: legacy Metal GPUs 24

Ivy Bridge, Haswell and NVIDIA Kepler use the older Metal 3802 drivers. Works, with more patching and some app issues.

With OCLP: GPUs without Metal 37

OpenGL acceleration is restored, but apps that require Metal do not run. Usable for basic work; expect missing features.

OCLP's source defines 21 patch sets; 20 of them are used on Sequoia. 9 need a Kernel Debug Kit (AMD Legacy GCN, AMD Polaris, AMD TeraScale 1, AMD TeraScale 2, Intel GMA X3100, Intel Iron Lake, Intel Sandy Bridge, Nvidia Tesla and Legacy Backlight Control). Intel Haswell, Intel Ivy Bridge and Nvidia Kepler also need MetallibSupportPkg, and install far more files than the other sets (149 vs 9 on Sonoma, 149 vs 9 on Sonoma and 151 vs 11 on Sonoma).

Compared with Sonoma: no patch set is new on Sequoia. Files installed changed for AMD TeraScale 1 (23 → 25), AMD TeraScale 2 (21 → 23), Intel GMA X3100 (17 → 19), Intel Haswell (9 → 149), Intel Iron Lake (14 → 16), Intel Ivy Bridge (9 → 149), Intel Sandy Bridge (15 → 17), Nvidia Kepler (11 → 151), Nvidia Tesla (16 → 18), Legacy USB 1.1 (5 → 7) and Modern Wireless (2 → 1).

What to know about Sequoia on a patched Mac

  • iPhone Mirroring and Apple Intelligence do not work on patched Macs: iPhone Mirroring needs the T2 chip for attestation, and Apple Intelligence needs Apple silicon (Dortania).
  • Ivy Bridge, Haswell and NVIDIA Kepler graphics (2012–2015 Macs) need Dortania’s MetallibSupportPkg on Sequoia, which OCLP downloads during root patching. Its build must match your exact macOS build.
  • From Sequoia 15.4, macOS prompts to turn on automatic updates after each update. Keep automatic downloads off on a patched Mac, so an update cannot be staged half-way (Dortania, Application troubleshooting).

How to install macOS Sequoia with OCLP

The process is the same for every macOS version: create the installer for macOS Sequoia in OCLP's Create macOS Installer, build and install OpenCore to the USB drive, boot it through EFI Boot, install, install OpenCore to the internal disk, and run Post-Install Root Patch. Common questions

Can my Mac run macOS Sequoia?

If it is on OCLP's supported list, yes, with OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Check it in the Mac Checker.

Which OCLP version do I need for macOS Sequoia?

2.5.1, the current stable release. Newer OCLP versions keep supporting every macOS from Big Sur on.

Can I install macOS Sequoia without a USB drive?

If your Mac already runs Big Sur or newer through OCLP, you can upgrade from Software Update or an installer app. A first install from an older macOS needs a USB drive. See Install without USB.
