Short answer

OpenCore Legacy Patcher has supported macOS Monterey since version 0.1.7. Every Mac OCLP supports can run it, from the 2007 iMac to the 2017 models, plus the 2019 iMac. The newest Monterey installer in the app is 12.7.6 (build 21H1320, released 2024-07-29). Monterey is our pick for non-Metal Macs (most 2008–2011 models): it is the newest version where those Macs keep working app permissions and the widest app compatibility. It no longer gets Apple security updates (last version 12.7.6, July 2024), so use a current browser and be careful with downloads.

What to know about Monterey on a patched Mac

  • On Monterey, most unsupported Macs from 2013 onwards can keep System Integrity Protection fully on; non-Metal Macs, NVIDIA Kepler and Intel HD 4000 need it lowered (Dortania, Post-Installation).
  • MacBookPro11,3 needs Safe Mode to boot Monterey until the NVIDIA root patches are installed (Dortania, issue #522).
  • Legacy Broadcom and Atheros Wi-Fi cards (2008–2012 Macs) need OCLP’s Legacy Wireless patch from Monterey on.

How to install macOS Monterey with OCLP

The process is the same for every macOS version: create the installer for macOS Monterey in OCLP's Create macOS Installer, build and install OpenCore to the USB drive, boot it through EFI Boot, install, install OpenCore to the internal disk, and run Post-Install Root Patch. Common questions

Can my Mac run macOS Monterey?

If it is on OCLP's supported list, yes, with OpenCore Legacy Patcher. Check it in the Mac Checker.

Which OCLP version do I need for macOS Monterey?

2.5.1, the current stable release. Newer OCLP versions keep supporting every macOS from Big Sur on.

Can I install macOS Monterey without a USB drive?

If your Mac already runs Big Sur or newer through OCLP, you can upgrade from Software Update or an installer app. A first install from an older macOS needs a USB drive. See Install without USB.
