Short answer

Use 2.5.1 for macOS Big Sur to Sequoia. Use 3.0.0 for macOS Tahoe: its newest build is 3.0.0-rc.5, a pre-release. On November 3, 2026 the changelog on the main branch got its final “3.0.0” heading, so a stable 3.0.0 is close.

3.0.0: macOS Tahoe support

Release candidates since October 4, 2026 (3.0.0-rc.5 on October 28, 2026). From the changelog:

  • macOS Tahoe 26 support by EduCovas and ASentientBot: non-Metal, Metal 3802 and Metal 31001 graphics; legacy (Atheros and older Broadcom) and modern (newer Broadcom) Wi-Fi; T1 chip; USB mappings for macOS 26 (Jazzzny); FileVault on macOS 26 (Jazzzny); a fix for Penryn Macs booting 26.4 and later; a fix for an AppleUSBTopCase kernel panic.
  • Rewritten wireless patches and improved non-Metal patches for every macOS version.
  • MacBook4,1 (2008) supported again, with Intel GMA X3100 acceleration patches.
  • Fix for a dual-CPU kernel panic on the 2008 Mac Pro and Xserve on macOS 15 and newer.
  • New app icon in the Liquid Glass style, new first-launch screen and credits menu.
  • Bundled: OpenCore 1.0.6, Lilu 1.7.2, WhateverGreen 1.7.1, PatcherSupportPkg 2.0.5.

Pre-release warning, from the developers

“This is a prerelease for OpenCore Legacy Patcher 3.0.0. Expect issues resulting in instability, system crashes, and potential data loss.”

2.5.1 (September 19, 2026)

A small fix: the “Root Volume Dirty” message no longer appears after unpatching when the seal stays broken (for example while an update is pending), and its wording is clearer.

2.5.0 (September 8, 2026)

  • OCLP refuses to re-patch a “dirty” root volume, to avoid half-overwritten patches.
  • A slimmer Modern Wireless patch set for Sequoia.
  • The JavaScriptCore fix for Macs without AVX moved into RestrictEvents, which also fixes Macs without Wi-Fi cards on Sonoma and newer.
  • Fix for crashes from a wrong version in the CoreImage patch.

This was the first release in a year: 2.4.1 came out on September 1, 2025, two weeks before macOS Tahoe.

2.4.1 (September 1, 2025)

The installer list moved to AppleDB as its source, fixing missing or wrong installers. With about 2.9 million installer downloads, it was the most downloaded OCLP release, because it stayed current for a whole year.

2.4.0 (May 12, 2025) and earlier

2.4.0 cut CPU use in the app and fixed T1 issues on 14.4 and later and Apple Pay on 15.5. 2.3.0 (March 31, 2025) removed the old .app.zip download (only the .pkg now) and the crash analytics. 2.0.0 (September 14, 2024) added Sequoia. 1.5.0 (May 31, 2024) introduced the .pkg installer and privileged helper. 1.0.0 (October 2, 2023) added Sonoma.

Common questions

What is the latest version of OpenCore Legacy Patcher?

Stable: 2.5.1. Newest pre-release: 3.0.0-rc.5 (3.0.0, with macOS Tahoe support).

Should I update OCLP?

Yes, before a major macOS upgrade, and when a release fixes something that affects you. Update the app, then rebuild and reinstall OpenCore. See Updating.

What are nightly builds?

Untested builds from the latest code. The developers ask people not to share or use them on a main Mac. We do not link to them.
