How we test OpenCore Legacy Patcher
Everything on this site comes from three places: the OCLP source code, Dortania's documentation, and our own runs of the real app. This page shows the runs, the raw files, and, just as important, what we cannot test.
On this page 5 sections
Short answer
We run the official OCLP 3.0.0-rc.5 packages on GitHub's macOS machines (Apple silicon and Intel): we hash them, check their signatures, install them, screenshot every screen of the app, run its command-line EFI build for every one of the 86 supported Mac models, and run the uninstaller. We also run OCLP's own root-patch detection code for every model and macOS version. We cannot boot an old Mac, so we never claim results only real hardware could give.
What we test, and how
| Test | How | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Download integrity | SHA-256 of every release asset, pkgutil --check-signature, spctl, stapler | Download |
| What the installer changes | File-system listing before and after installer -pkg; extracted pre/post-install scripts | Is it safe? |
| The app, screen by screen | Launch, open each menu, screenshot with screencapture | How to install |
| OpenCore for every model | OpenCore-Patcher --build --model <id> for all 86 identifiers; logs, file lists and config.plist kept | Every Mac page |
| Root patches per model and macOS | OCLP's own patch-set classes run against each model's stock hardware (from smbios_data.py), Big Sur to Tahoe | Mac pages, OS hubs, Root patching |
| Installer list | OCLP's own AppleDB code, run against the live catalog | Versions shown everywhere |
| Uninstall | Run the official uninstaller and list what remains | Uninstall |

OpenCore builds for every supported model
For each Mac, the number of kexts OCLP put in its EFI folder, the model it reports to macOS (OCLP's default SMBIOS setting), and the raw files.

What we cannot test
- Booting a real old Mac. GitHub's Macs are virtual machines on recent Apple hardware. We cannot boot OpenCore, install macOS or apply root patches on a 2012 MacBook Pro there. Our Intel test machine even reports itself as a
Macmini6,2, but its virtual graphics card means OCLP finds no patches to apply. - Performance, battery life, Wi-Fi quality. We never publish numbers we did not measure.
- Hardware-detected patches. For the T1 chip and PCIe FaceTime camera, the root-patch results rely on documented model lists instead of hardware detection; the Mac pages say so.
Where we rely on real-hardware reports from others (for example the MacRumors Tahoe thread), we name the source. If you run OCLP on a Mac and something differs from what we describe, tell us.
